Waffles
When you have children at home you have to cook, lockdown or no lockdown, and keep them occupied and entertained. The niece has been very obedient and locked herself at home for more than a week. She has been asking for waffles for a while now, but we don't have a waffle maker. Thinking out of the box, here are waffles in a toaster!
The niece's ratings: "Tia, you are this close to nailing it. It is so very close to Belgian Waffles'! Worth all the exercise! This recipe is dedicated to my niece, Nyasa.
Collect it:
For the waffle
·
150 gms maida
·
1 1/2tsp baking
powder
·
5 tbsp powdered sugar
·
1 tsp vanilla
essence
·
1 egg
·
1 tbsp melted
butter
·
1 cup milk
·
A pinch of sauce
For chocolate sauce
· 150 gms of dark
chocolate (I used 3M brand that’s
available in our super markets)
·
A dash of salt
·
A dash of cinnamon
Make it:
SEPARATE egg yolk from
the egg white.
BEAT egg white to
stiff peaks.
Add maida and baking
together and sift together
In a bowl ADD melted
butter, egg yolk and caster sugar and mix well.
To this add 1/2 cup milk and vanilla essence and mix well again. Add
salt. To this mixture add flour and mix well and some milk till you get a
smooth thick batter.
FOLD in the stiff egg
white to the flour mixture.
Let the mixture rest
for 15 minutes.
Oil the toaster spoon
some batter on the toaster. Close and let it cook. It took me some 10 minutes
to get it done. Remove and serve with chocolate sauce.
For the chocolate
sauce: double boil the chocolate. Or microwave the chocolate in bursts of 10
seconds. Once melted, add salt and cinnamon.
